You were washed

Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,

Who do not lift up their souls to what is false. Psalm 24:4

Read 1 Corinthians 6:9—11
My life is not a static thing. Who I was is not who I am. I was a sinner. I met the friend of sinners. I met the sin-bearer. I met the one who became sin for me. And it was so that he could make something of me. It was so that the truth of me would be who I am in him. It was so that I could live in his righteousness. It was so that God could be very happy with me, rejoice over me, say with all pride of family possession, ‘That’s my child.’ So I have a family likeness to grow into. Perhaps I can say I am now who I am being prepared to be.

Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you that you made me for your pleasure, and that in Jesus Christ you have won me away from a life lost to you, away from waste and frivolous intentions. I thank you for the deep and heavy cost of this salvation. It has taken your total commitment of yourself. You have chosen to be not only my maker but also my Saviour; not only the God who made me to be good, but also the God who valued me as though I was. For you see me as you look upon your own dear Son. I am claimed by him. And I am baptised within his baptism. I am washed in him. As you look upon him, as you sent your Spirit upon him, as you called him your loved Son, so you look upon me and call even me your loved child. Let me grow in the Spirit in this holy life.
