Christmas continued

Great are the works of the Lord,

Studied by all who delight in them. Psalm 111:2

Read Luke 2:16—20

This day after Christmas I have had the opportunity to enter into the action of the story, the first story. I have had the opportunity along with the shepherds to tell of this child, this one born to great celebration. This day I have had the opportunity, along with Mary, to treasure these matters. And to ponder. One thing I ponder is this: I ponder upon the fact that since Jesus was born the world has never been without his name, never been innocent of him or really free from him. He was born to be, if it is right to put it like this, abandoned to the world as its Saviour, never to be a mere figure of history but the truth about every person. In these ponderous thoughts I have had the opportunity to glorify and praise God.

Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, you have given to me and to the church days that you have filled. My days are not empty days. There is in each day, and in this day, time to treasure Jesus, to ponder his significance, time to praise and glorify you. I thank you for the direction my life has taken because it is a life secure in Christ. I pray your blessing on those I have met. Since Christ came for the whole world I pray, too, for your blessing on those who cross cultures to offer Christ to others. May all the cultures of the world ring out in praise. And I thank you that by reflecting with the shepherds and with Mary I also know there is more stored up for me to take into tomorrow.
