No gods but God

God has taken his place in the divine council;

In the midst of the gods he holds judgement. Psalm 82:1

Read 1 Samuel 5:1—5

Let me take something very central to my heart tonight. The Father has given all things to the Son. No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.[1] This has been recorded in the Apostles’ teaching, and I can devote myself wholeheartedly to it with my fellow believers.[2] Any god, any foreign philosophy, any lifestyle practice, any ritual or cult, animist spirits posing as culture; anything purporting to be a new revelation from God; as far as that goes, any craving for controversy, even theological controversy which comes separated from what the Father has given to the Son and through the Son,[3] will fall at the feet of God with its arms broken off and its head rolling on the ground.

Lord, I trust you tonight. I come to you in the name of Jesus. He is declared to be the truth, the truth and the life.[4] It is as the truth of God that he sets me free to know you as you are. Give me discernment to detect all that is not of you. Let my life and my time not be wasted on false belief and wrangling about it. Except, that is, where I can help another towards the truth that sets us free. I pray for those I know who are devoted to gods that are not God. For those lost in the imaginations of their own hearts. I pray for the day they will have life in your name alone.
