Liberty in Christ

Then I will teach transgressors your ways,

And sinners will return to you. Psalm 51:13

Read Colossians 2:9—15

Never! Never must I forget the sheer liberty I have in Christ Jesus. The record of this very day, all its shames, all its little compromises, the responsibilities I failed to assume, the people I dodged when they had been given to me to love and attend to: the record of every day easily includes matters like these. If I am what I have done, if I am the outcome of my own moral record, I am far from the glory of God. Impossibly far.[1] But that miserable record is no longer fixed upon me. It is fixed upon Christ. It is the fullness of life that he had, the fullness of God, that he imparts to me in return. What immense freedom, to know that as I am bound to him in faith and baptism, yes, I am irresponsibly free!

Prayer
Dear Lord, since you have taken full responsibility for my life, let me live in giveaway thankfulness. Let me do more than I would ever have done if I was trying to earn this love. Let me submit, careless of myself, submit freely to you. Let me follow where your outpoured love leads me in giving myself to others. Let me live in this freedom joyfully, lovingly, longingly, longing to love you more, longing for others to find you and be found in you.
