This is my story

Come, risen Lord, and deign to be our guest;

No, let us be thy guests: the feast is thine. George Wallace Briggs

Read Luke 24:28-35

This evening, after the Good News of the resurrection of Jesus, is a fine time not only to read this story, but to re-live it. It invites me in. I don’t think I am an intruder if I read it as my very own story. This is the Lord risen to me. He goes ahead of me on my road, but I can invite him in, and he will come. He makes himself known in my eating and drinking, as he always did, and especially when the bread is broken in the holy communion. He addresses my heart, moves it and warms it in the scripture, when it is opened, when it speaks into my life. This is Jesus. And I cannot detain him. He is always the Lord, always on the move, and I will always have to meet him in living encounter.

Prayer
Living Lord Jesus, I adore you this night. I would follow you on the way. I would welcome you into my home. I would listen to your word in my Bible. I would commune with you in my mealtime, in shared meals with others, in the holy communion with the church, and in the banquet to come in your honour in the kingdom. I can say all this because you have come to me, you have communed with me, given yourself to me, and you have gone ahead of me to prepare your Father’s house for me.
