The song of the soul set free

Glory to thee, my God, this night

For all the blessings of the light. Thomas Ken

Read Act 16:25—34
Quite a lot happened in the middle of the night once two Christian prisoners sang hymns and prayed. After that they spoke the word of God to this gaoler and his whole household. The whole lot of them were baptised. They had a great meal. The household was set rejoicing that they were now believers. I suppose you would say that a church had been formed. It’s a good thing to do, to sing and to pray. It’s good for me to do at night, whether I am in prison or not. Even if I’m not in prison, I can still find something to sing and pray about, surely. Even if I can be overheard. Even if it’s not something I have been in the habit of doing.

Prayer
This night, my God, I raise my voice in praise. With Paul and Silas I sing and announce your goodness. You are kind, kind to be my Saviour. You have broken my chains, every way in which I have fallen from your glory, and every way I have let myself be bound by things that would drag me down, would close my thoughts to you, would close my mouth to your praise. You have freed me. You have won me. I have freedom to be your child. I have this through Jesus Christ. All praise to you this night.
