The activities of the Spirit

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit

For the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:7

Read 1 Corinthians 12:1—6

Today the Spirit of God has been at work in my life. If I can say from the heart, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ there is evidence enough that the Spirit is at work. This is not something I have devised myself. It is borne in upon me. It is a recognition of the truth. There must be a gift or two that I know has come from the Spirit. I could name some way I have been built up in living faith. But I am most likely to know the working of this spiritual gift when my mind is off myself, and I am steadily focused on others in the body of Christ. My gifts will come into play when I am fully bent on seeing others also say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ when I want them to really flourish in their life in Christ, and I do something to help it happen. Tonight let me take time to discern this. How is the Spirit in me encouraging those around me to be more fully Christ’s?

Prayer
Spirit of God, Spirit of the living God, sent to me, sent to impress upon me the majesty, the lordship and the presence of Jesus, sent to grow me into a fuller version of my life, a renewed life, a life set apart for God, that speaks the language of love because you have shed God’s love abroad in my heart, let me soak in your presence tonight and be led by you tomorrow. Activate my life, and grow me as I live to contribute to the lives of others.
