No other god

The law indeed was given through Moses;

Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17

Read Exodus 20:1—7

How good of God to give himself to be my God. To call me out of the house of slavery. Because I am apt to my particular forms of slavery. How good of God to free me from false gods, from idolatry. Yes, I am tempted to my own cherished kinds of idols. God has released me from the curse of abusing God’s name. Even Jesus was tempted to worship the devil. So I cannot claim to be innocent of the most devilish temptations. God, then, has rescued me out of the depths of godlessness and has freed me for himself. This all took God through struggle with his chosen people Israel, all the way to suffering and rejection, to the death and resurrection of Israel’s Messiah who endured the cross for joy, for the joy set before him.[1] So much was done by God to deliver me to the place where I can say, ‘Hallowed be your name.’

My Father, hallowed be your name above every name in my life. Honoured be your way. Let the honouring of your way be the test by which I measure my every course of action. Let it be my greatest pleasure to know you and to be known as yours, to declare you publicly, to be unashamed of Jesus.[2] Reveal to me ways I have taken today that are false, compromising, or untrue to you. Forgive me and reclaim me from those ways. And let me, a sacred member of your people, be taken into the joy of Jesus who did all things to free me to be this child, reborn to love God and to love to obey you.
