The endlessly renewed relationship

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up. Psalm 139:1—2

Read John 1:43—51

If I have the time and the alertness it would be worth my while tonight to chart Jesus’ growing revelation of himself to me. I am in a two-way relationship with him. He knows me, my character and my movements. From my first knowledge of him, he already saw me coming. As to my knowledge of him, it has to be a growing relationship. I will never know him fully. There will be endlessly more to discover. Every new revelation of him gives me a new perspective on him. Because each encounter changes me just that little bit, I will always see from a new perspective, so I will always see new. This will never cease. I will forever be saying, ‘So that is who you are, Lord!’

Lord Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God, the Son of Man on whom the angels ascended and descended, who has opened heaven to me, the things of God to me, you said, ‘To those who have more will be given.’[1] I thank you that you make this true. You are the giver. You give yourself. You give your Father in the Spirit. You give yourself in a love relationship. I can know you more today than I did, love you more than I did, have your perspective on the events and people of my life as you lead me. And I can have more of that than I did. By faith I can say this night, even if I have not felt it, you have led me again today, and I have actually received your grace today in a new form, the form of this day.
