The journey that included me

Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he,

Humble and riding on a donkey. Zechariah 9:9

Read Matthew 21:1—9

I could spend really fruitful time thinking and praying about what happened when Jesus made his final planned pilgrimage to Jerusalem. His friends were useless. His enemies were murderous. But these events changed my life and my eternity. I believe they shaped up what the heart of history on this planet is all about. It is clear to me from tonight’s reading that none of this happened by chance. The entry of Jesus appears scripted. He organised it. It’s purposed. It’s God, not the evil one, managing affairs, fulfilling the promise that runs through the Bible. It’s a regal procession. And I can see that Jesus took me along with him, on this once-for-all journey.

Prayer
Dear Lord, I am on the edge of what was really at the centre. I follow at a distance, separate in time: miles and miles from understanding what you confronted; how you were motivated; what would have been running through your mind; who you looked upon with love as you did this journey; who you saw on that day; who you spoke to. But I do know that the scope of it was vast. I do know that I cannot deny to anyone that you had them in sight when you took this journey. Everyone I have ever met could be in your sight. I thank you that you went to Jerusalem for me, to win me to God, to include me when you came to save the world.
