All things for God’s glory

Let us see thy great salvation

Perfectly restored in thee. Charles Wesley

Read Revelation 21:22—27

Compared with this, my own attempts to sketch the coming kingdom, heaven, the New Jerusalem — whatever I choose for title — my vision by comparison is feeble. I think so individually. This is a vision of nations, cultures, and rulers. I’ll be caught up way beyond myself. I have real trouble not suspecting it will somehow be loss. I keep thinking of the loss of the most intriguing creatures that are my companions in life, that chirp or nuzzle or joke with me. And there’s no night in the picture. So I’ll lose my sleep! But this is all an admission of my own feeble efforts to construct God’s future. I must let it all come from his hand. It will not be the loss of all things. Not the loss of anything. Rather, the renewal of all things. The fulfilment.

Father, you have set up my life such that I find it by losing it. Only so am I found in Christ, the Lord over all things. Only so am I found in you. And so you have set up this wonderful life I share with all creation so that it too will find itself by losing itself. In Christ, risen and victorious, you promise the renewal of all things. May I hold all things I have as though I did not. Open my eyes to see all things as yours. All things made for you. All things for your glory.
