The river of the water of life

As they go through the valley of Baca,

They make it a place of springs. Psalm 84:6

Read Revelation 22:1—5
I picture Jesus talking to the Samaritan woman at the well, a woman who knows life as so stony and difficult. He promised living water, gushing up to eternal life.[1] So if I am to picture eternal life it is right that there be flowing water at the heart of it, that it flow from God, that it offer life and healing to the nations. Other things I could picture also come from the promise I have in Jesus: the Lamb who will take away the sin of the world, his name written upon his servants. The point I take is this: in whatever way I imagine heaven, or the renewal of all things in heaven and earth, it is the fulfilment of who Jesus is and what he has done as the world’s Saviour. It is the harvest of which Jesus is the first fruit.

Prayer
Lord, my Saviour and my God, I thank you that the faith you have planted in me is a promise of more to come. It is the pledge that there will be an outcome. Everything I know of you has put within me a desire to know you more and to live more deeply in you. Now I see that you are the promise of more. With faith in you comes the promise of more of you. You contain within yourself the pledge of the renewal all things. I will never come to the end of you.
