Blind until I met Jesus

May God be gracious and bless us

And make his face to shine upon us. Psalm 67:1

Read John 9:1—12

Tonight I am ushered to a seat next to this man who has had an unwanted condition, and he has had it from birth. It’s blindness. But in my case, as I identify with him, it could be something else. It really could. It could be what I have always had that I could well do without. It may have caused me to regret my parents. Or curse my fate. I may have wanted to curse the day I was born, like poor Job,[1] or dear Jeremiah,[2] or to curse God, like Job’s wife.[3] But Jesus came to bless. To bear the curse himself[4] and in return to bless. To bless every condition that causes jealousy, misery, sorrow, resentment or outrage.[5] So, if I ever do put up with a condition I never wanted, the form that faith must take for me is this: in my present condition, whatever it is, Jesus Christ embraces me with his real presence. He specifically blesses me. And he promises me that God will be glorified specifically in me.

Lord, you came to bless. You did not curse. You relieved the curse. You took the curse of all mankind upon yourself, and you came to fulfil the promise of God to bless the nations. And among them you bless me. Overcome my condition and all my regrets with the fullness of your Spirit. Bless me. Let me find my healing in you.
