Water of life

My soul thirsts for God,

For the living God. Psalm 42:2

Read John 4:7—14

So is this true? Can I say that the water Jesus gives gushes up to eternal life? Has there been anything through the course of this day that has had me drinking this in? Anything I can talk about? Explain to another or thank the Lord for in prayer? This time, at least, this quiet evening pause for prayer can be the time. It is a watering place. Let me sit here. Let me sit as the companion of the Samaritan woman. Let me hear the pregnant promise, flowing from the lips of Jesus. This encounter that transformed her, let me join her in it and drink deeply, thirstily of the Lord.

Prayer
Here you are, Lord, sitting with me. This is remarkable companionship, and you refresh me. You know me through and through, all about me, yet you sit with me and you speak with me. This is like a cool drink to me. Well, it is really like a toast. You hearten me. You speak to me of your Father, as family discussions go. You do not let me disqualify myself from knowing him as my Father. This quenches my thirst. You pour it out on me. Spirit and truth. This is inexhaustible. When I sleep tonight and rise tomorrow, here you will be, and it will all be refreshing, and all as sweet to me as a flowing spring.
