He will bring forth justice

You are righteous, O Lord,

And your judgements are right. Psalm 119:137

Read Isaiah 42:1—8

I may give little day-to-day thought to justice — it seems for some to be equated with revenge, not the noblest virtue — until I am unjustly dealt with. Then I know it. Then I know the sheer blind fury of powerlessness. For surely the real injustice is felt by the really powerless. Then I long for the very righteousness of God. And when I turn to God, read his word, and listen to his voice, I have no alternative but to burn as God burns, for the powerless. I have as model the righteous servant. And he has been given to me, the Servant of God, the Righteous One. And if I will pray to him and live with him he will clothe me with a righteousness that will burn.

You are a holy God. You are the righteous Lord. You live in the right. You establish the right. Your righteousness is enacted in Jesus and your Spirit anoints me with all that he has done. I cannot live truly unless I am straight and true in my dealing with others. I cannot live purposefully unless I seek true righteousness, true fellowship among the people who are my companions on the road. Let me daily delight in your truth of character. And move me to clothe all my actions in what is right for others.
