Friend of sinners

Therefore there is now no condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

Read Luke 7:41—50

This night I had better be clear before the Lord about the whole matter. How many of my sins have been forgiven? Whether my sins are many, like this woman who invaded Simon’s house, or, in my opinion, few. That question, the many and the few, makes no difference at all. If I remain an unforgiven person I will be a half-hearted Christian. My love for Jesus will be a pale reflection of what it could be. My enthusiasm for commending Christ to others will be tepid. I’ll probably develop Simon’s critical spirit. But, know Christ died for me fully; know he’s forgiven me fully, there’ll be no limit to my love, either for Jesus or for my fellow sinner.

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you are the friend of sinners, the ultimate sinners’ friend.[1] You died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures.[2] You died fully and you were buried. You, who had no sin, became sin for me, fully, so that I may become the righteousness of God, fully.[3] I thank you for this dear unnamed woman. You noticed her. You attracted her. In you she found complete forgiveness, and in finding forgiveness she found herself. She is my sister. May I join her in becoming a grateful witness to your great grace.
