Every knee shall bow

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:6

Read Isaiah 45:22—25

It is all or nothing with God. ‘All the ends of the earth.’ Nothing excepted. His claim is on everything and everyone. ‘Every knee shall bow. Every tongue shall swear.’ No one will be excepted. However reluctantly, however grudgingly. And those tongues, so used to wagging, prone to cursing, and to abuse and gossip and idle chatter, so used to prattling on as though there is no God at all, or talking all about God as though we are the authority on that subject, will find themselves, every tongue, confessing that Jesus is Lord.[1] ‘Only in the Lord. Only in the Lord. There is no other.’ God is quite ruthless, really. Yet wonderfully devoted to me.

Because you have declared that there is no other, Lord God, then there is no other. There is no other who saves. There is no other who has loved me from all eternity. There is no other who has fiercely determined to prize me away from all that is false. There is no other who called Israel out of slavery in Egypt. There is no other who raised Jesus of Nazareth from the dead. There is no other who has made all heaven and earth to be both your footstool and your prized possession. I look for the day when I will say, ‘Jesus Christ is Lord,’ and find that all people and all creation are accompanying me in the cry. One day no voice will have anything else to declare.
