More, much more than being saved

God assures me of everlasting life and makes me wholeheartedly ready

To live from now on for him. Heidelberg Catechism

Read Romans 5:6—11

It is such Good News, truly liberating news, to know that Jesus died for me in my sin, in my helplessness, quite apart from anything at all that I did or could have done, totally, brilliantly achieving my saving as the work of God alone. That is my only hope, and it is something I can never ever leave behind. But there’s much more to be happy about. I sit here tonight. And I have a repaired relationship with God to enjoy. I’m reconciled. God did not only save me to redeem me from the plight I was in, from being lost and forlorn. I’m not just the object of God’s pity. My Father reconciled me so that he could enjoy me. He delights in me. My Father chose to love me, and for me to enjoy his loving me.

Prayer
Dear Father, since Christ died for me while I was lost from you, I have some measure of the value I am to you. You have revalued me. I am priceless. I am treasured. No, this value you have placed on me is beyond my measure. And because of the completeness of Christ’s sacrifice for me, nothing of what you have done is now wasted. All that you have to offer humanity is now mine. It is a precious thing tonight to know that I can enjoy you forever and I can enjoy being human.
