The word of God

Master, speak, your servant heareth,

Waiting for your gracious word. Frances Ridley Havergal

Read Exodus 25:17—22

I wonder tonight if I am ready to meet with God in such a way that I allow God to speak to me. It is a holy place from which he speaks. I see it is the holy place where the words of the covenant were deposited, the Ten Commands. God will speak to me on the basis of what he has revealed of his nature. He is the God who sets his people free. Who claims to be their only God, and who gives them their way to live. All this he now reveals to me, fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus is the mercy seat, my place of meeting with God. He is the holy place. He is the word that gives me God’s direction. My personal direction is set in him. What he says to me now will be consistent with what he said from the beginning. Will I let him speak tonight into the aching parts of my life, where I must have direction? Whatever the cost?

If not tonight, Lord, if not this day, some days I ache for direction. Speak your word into my core relationships. Speak your word into my casual relationships. Speak your word into my private thoughts. My long-term goals. My fond ambitions. My need for authenticity. And integrity. My finances. My holiday plans. My church. My responsibilities. Speak into my life, one word of assurance. Another of redirection. Speak to me of where blessing is found. Or I die.
